Road Works – Buttercross and Bridport Rd

The Duchy team apologises in advance for the disruption that this will cause, and thank all residents, and visitors to Poundbury for their patience and co-operation until it is completed.

Re: Poundbury Adoption Works

It is the Duchy of Cornwall’s intention for Bridport Road to be adopted by Dorset Council and some highway improvements are required in order to achieve this.

Hansford Construction have been appointed to carry out these works starting with the section west of Victor Jackson Square. The works are planned to start week commencing 9th November 2020 for an expected duration of six weeks so this section should be completed by 18th December 2020 if all goes well.

The following works are required by Dorset Council to bring this section of road up to an adoptable standard;

Additional tactile paving to the footpaths at some crossing points
Tree pit improvements
Patch repairs to footpaths and carriageway crossings
Kerbing and footpath amendments at the Buttercross
Resurfacing and surface dressing of the Buttercross

Bridport Road will need to be closed in order to carry out these works safely. Dorset Council have granted a road closure from 16th November 2020 with an official diversion route via Middle Farm Way. In order to minimise disruption the contractors have planned the works in sections. Local diversions will be set up and access to businesses and properties will be maintained. The contractor will also ensure that a pedestrian route and access for emergency vehicles remains in place. All diversion routes will be clearly sign posted.

I apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause. If you have any queries relating to these works, or specific access requirements, please contact me (Dan Savage) at the Duchy office (tel: 01305 250533) and I will do my best to resolve these for you.

Further works are planned for Victor Jackson Square and Bridport Road East but these will not be started until the New Year. We will write to you again once we have finalised the details and dates of these works.
